            Update on Park Restoration

            by Tom Barnard, Park Superintendent:

"The South Trail that parallels the River is now open; you can enter the Park at the Grigsby Field area south of Main Street. The side of the Park near the railroad track is still closed. We still have some grading to do as soon as the weather permits, and we'll need to address the playground mulch situation (rubber tire mulch or is there a better solution?) We also have some maintenance to do on Grigsby Field, such as reconditioning the in-infield. Seeding and tree planting will take place in the spring, and we are coordinating with Platte County on Platte Landing Park also. And we are looking at the remodeling of the present building that houses the Park and Sewer Departments, and considering a new building to be used as storage."

            * Specific use of the monies being donated by FOPP won't be determined until they get further into restoration efforts over the next 3-4 months, so we'll keep you posted.

            Update on Fundraisers

by Cory Miller, FOPP Founder & Managing Officer

We appreciate those in the community who hold fund-raisers for us.
The last event with the Parkville Symphony Band (Steve Berg, conductor) garnered almost $500 for our effort. Now the "local" McDonald's located at 64th Street and I-29 is planning to donate twenty-five cents to FOPP for every regular lunch/dinner menu Extra Value Meal sold during the week of January 23rd through January 29th.  Be sure to patronize them during that time to help us out!

And we are pleased that both the City of Parkville and the Economic Development Council have expressed interest in having Friends of Parkville Parks as their 501(c)(3) partner in seeking grants for which they can apply.

Eat at McDonald's and Help FOPP!
